Between departure and arrival – my story

Eleven years ago, I moved to Tokyo on a working holiday visa.
I’ve been fascinated by Japan since I was a child. I learned Japanese, studied Japanese Studies, spent a year here as an exchange student. After graduating, I came back on a working holiday – honestly, planning to return to Germany if I couldn’t find a job.

But I got lucky, found a position, changed my visa. Suddenly, eleven years had passed.
Today, I travel a lot, with Tokyo as my base. I work remotely, sometimes for extended periods while on the road. But it’s not just about traveling. I also write about my everyday life in Tokyo, about things I notice, stuff I use, or what I’m thinking about.

Every trip shows me anew how fascinatingly diverse our planet is. How differently people live, what creative solutions they find for problems. But that applies to everyday life too. Just by observing and reflecting, you can learn an incredible amount.
Here, I write about travels, about places that have impressed me, about my life in Tokyo, and about moments that show me: The world is damn interesting.

I’m not an expert. Even though I studied Japanese Studies – I still know shockingly little. But I’m curious.
This is my digital notebook. Written honestly, but thoughtfully. Stories from traveling, observations from everyday life, thoughts that make you think – if that interests you, feel free to stick around.
